10 Things To Do Before Your Summer Getaway
Heading out of town for vacation? Whatever your plans, save yourself from some aggravation while traveling or relaxing by reviewing the below list of suggestions from US Community Credit Union. This list of things to do before you go might make a difference for YOU.
1.) Let us know about your plans
Give US a call at 615-256-8712 before you leave town. Be sure to let us know you’re headed so we know to honor any card transactions you make while in another state. Be sure to include states you may stop in on the way so we can be sure to include those in the approval.
Ask us about best practices for using cash and cards while out of the state or country and we’ll help you make the best decisions for managing your money while you’re away.
2.) Check your auto insurance plan for coverage
If you plan on renting a car, check with your vehicle insurance provider to find out if rental cars are covered under your policy.
3.) Pay all your bills
Before heading out, make sure all your monthly bills are paid up. Use US Community Credit Union’s Online Bill Pay product to safely, securely and quickly pay all your bills ahead of time. You don’t want to be busy paying bills during your vacay or risk getting late fees and charges for payments missed.
4.) Put your mail on hold
If you’ll be gone a while, ask the USPS to hold your mail at the post office until your return. You can do this online!
5.) Unplug your electronics
Pull the plug on all small appliances and electronics before you leave to prevent energy leakage.
6.) Clean your home
Nothing sounds better than coming home to a clean house after a relaxing vacation. You’ll also help avoid an invasion by ants or other critters.
7.) Check in with your cell phone service provider
Traveling to a remote location? Not sure if you’ll have service? Traveling overseas? It never hurts to check in with your provider to see if any tweaks or special permissions are needed for your cell phone plan prior to departure.
8.) Adjust your thermostats
If you have the AC blasting throughout the summer, remember to adjust your thermostat before leaving. Turning it off completely is unwise, as you’ll want some air to circulate to keep humidity under control and to avoid mold growth. Also, set your hot water heater to vacation mode/setting.
9.) Put a timer on your lights
Keep the prowlers out by setting your lights to go on and off in different rooms and at different times of the day throughout your vacation.
10.) Confirm your reservations
It’s a good idea to confirm your flight, hotel room, car rental and attractions before setting out on your trip.
Here’s hoping you have the vacation of a lifetime from all of us here at US Community Credit Union.
